Land Acknowledgement

Honouring Indigenous lands, communities, and healing through reconciliation, respect, and compassionate care.

Land Acknowledgement & Commitment to Reconciliation

Our team at AWC Grief Support recognizes that our work supporting individuals, families, and communities across Ontario takes place on the traditional territories and treaty lands of many First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. We acknowledge the 46 treaties and agreements that cover the territory now called Ontario.

To learn more about the specific lands and treaties where you are located, we invite you to visit Native-Land.ca.

We recognize that Indigenous Peoples have cared for these lands, waters, and communities since time immemorial. These lands remain deeply connected to ancestors, stories, ceremonies, and ways of healing that continue today.

We acknowledge the profound grief and trauma caused by colonization, including:

- The legacy of residential schools and the Sixties Scoop.
- Forced displacement and family separation.
- The disruption of sacred relationships with the land through environmental degradation and climate change, which impacts the spiritual, emotional, and          physical health of Indigenous communities.
- The ongoing impacts of intergenerational trauma and grief.

As a grief therapy practice, we honour the wisdom, storytelling traditions, cultural practices, and enduring resilience of Indigenous communities. We recognize that healing is relational—rooted in connection to family, community, culture, and the land. We are committed to bearing witness, learning, and creating spaces grounded in respect, compassion, and humility.

This land acknowledgment is continuously evolving in connection with learning and community. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please email intake@awcgrief.com.
